Coming into August the first hints of spring are apparent some Canberra residents have been cited venturing outdoors for the first time since April. I had in mind that now would be a good time to start up a calendar of events. Of course in my search around Canberra for appropriate food related info I have come across some real must sees and must dos.
Learning

Pod food in Pialligo ( Your text goes here ) have some interesting courses on offer as well, their cooking class with a twist sounds particularly nice with the teaching followed by the eating of the meal you have prepared. The next one of these will be run on Saturday August the 18th. But if you feel your skills need some brushing up before that the pod school is running a basic techniques class on the 10th of august
Charity dinner- the fireball

Fireside festival
“Make your winter escape and escape to winter” is the catch cry of this festival. The fireside festival is now in its third year running. Madew winery, Lambert winery, Grazing and Poachers pantry have gotten together to host this festival running every weekend in August, the events list is huge with a lantern cinema at grazing and blues jazz and folk artists from the region playing at poachers, set against a backdrop of fine food and wine, Fire side is a must do for locals and tourists alike. Gossip
The hole left in the canberra food scene when Dijon closed down looks to be filled (at least in the physical sense) an establishment is currently being furbished at the west row site, but apart from the name (“REJ”) little else is known. I can only hope that the newly formed fine eating district will find REJ good company. More on this as I get the news.
RCA Awards
On september the 10th the annual Restaurant and catering associations awards for excellence will be held at old parliament house. You can find a list of the finalist at Your text goes here
And I will publish a full list when available.
At Canberra table
Well this month you will see reviews for The Green Herring and Bella Vista and a feature on cafes around Belconnen I will be doing some prep on my vegetable garden as well as cooking up a storm. Just remember if there is any recipes / ingredients you’d like me to explore, or restaurants you think are worthy of a look, feel free to leave me a message.
Regards, Dave
