Malibu mex

Like mexican food? i don't, not the stuff you generally get in a mexican restaurant, all too much cheese and ground beef no where near enough corriander real chilli guacomole and the thousands of other food innovations and ingredients that were pillaged form south America scant centuries ago. Malibu mex is still pretty much a standard mexican restaurant though it does come in near the top of the category, the food is fresh the helpings are bloody big and there is more ground beef and melted cheese then you would ever have time to poke a stick at. For the food that is all that needs to be said. The main reason people keep coming back is definately the atmosphere, no offence to the food, it's not bad i just think ive said all that needed to be said.
Upon arrival at this seemingly unassuming building in Bodalla you open the door on what can only be described as surf memorabilia heaven. I am not a surfer by any length but the place is crammed with everything from vintage long boards to trophies, magazines, surf competition and movie posters, old swimmers it is very cool the music choice is obvious... beach boys etc, but this is not all. There are two walls in the front that have scultures of beach scenes coming out of them, the whole menu is beach themed (phrases like "break wall" "flat as a tack" and "nippers" used to describe all manner of mexican fare.) and to continue the theme all of the outdoor seating is made out of old broken surf boards, yeah i know, way tubular!
Now considering that i have 2 young nippers of my own, going to a place filled to the brim with breakables of vast monetary and or sentimental value should be impossible.... well they have that well and trully covered, one of the rooms is just for kids and is filled with all sorts of toys and games. This is a big selling point and all you parents out there will agree that generally trying to escape to a restaurant for a relaxing meal turns into anything but.
five stars for the kid friendliness ( ive not had a better outing with young kids ever)
food is not bad and the prices are ok as long as you remember not to order to much it is all quite filling, and the service is great- very warm and friendly
To make a booking call (02) 4473 5583 and they have a web site but most of the pages are still being set up. click here for more details have a great one, Regards, Dave
